Project Background

Our client contacted us to transform her garden, which had become overrun with overgrown brush and unruly weeds. She chose to work with us due to our reputation for reliability. When our project manager arrived onsite, he quickly observed that much of the brush was mature, with roots encroaching on the irrigation system. During the consultation, the client expressed her desire to incorporate vibrant flowers that would make a striking impression.

Objectives

  • AESTHETIC TRANSFORMATION: The first and most apparent objective was the aesthetic transformation of the property. The house was originally surrounded by overgrown brush and weeds, which obscured its charm and gave the property an unkempt appearance. The goal was to create a visually stunning garden that would enhance the curb appeal and make the home a focal point of beauty in the neighborhood.
  • SUSTAINABILITY: The second objective, sustainability, was integral to the project’s design philosophy. The homeowners wanted a garden that was not only beautiful and functional but also environmentally responsible. This meant implementing practices that would reduce the garden’s ecological footprint while promoting the health of the local environment.

Challenges

The first major challenge was tackling the extensive overgrowth that had taken hold of the property. The brush was dense, with tangled roots and  stubborn weeds. The team had to be meticulous to avoid damaging the irrigation system while clearing the area, preparing it for new plantings. After the overgrowth was cleared, it became apparent that the soil had been severely depleted. Years of neglect had left the soil compacted, with poor drainage and minimal nutrients. Restoring the soil to a healthy, fertile state was crucial for the success of the new plantings. This challenge was addressed through the incorporation of organic matter, soil amendments, and careful tilling to improve aeration and water retention.

Solution

CUSTOM LANDSCAPE DESIGN:
The main objective for this project was to enhance the house's curb appeal. Using the notes we took during our onsite consultation, our team chose specific annuals that would contrast well together. Before, the house had overgrown brush and zero color. Now, when you drive by the house, you will immediately notice the vibrant showcase of beauty and warmth. The overgrown brush and invasive weeds have been mutinously cleared, revealing the home's inviting façade. The garden bed once barren, are now brimming with lush, warm-colored annuals that bring a burst of color the the landscape. A rich layer of chocolate brown mulch blankets the garden bed, providing a striking contrast to the bright flowers. The mulch not only enhances the beauty of the plants but also brings a sense of order and harmony to the landscape. The brown hue of the mulch complements the home's exterior, adding warmth and depth to the overall design.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES:
Whenever our team started to design the front garden bed, our goal was to enhance it in a sustainable way. Our team picked flowers that were drought-resistant and able to thrive in our hardiness zone. We also added organic soil amendments to the garden bed to create a better environment for root growth.

Results

  • VISUAL APPEAL: The front garden was transformed into a visually stunning space through a carefully crafted layered planting design. The design incorporated a variety of plant heights, colors, and textures to create depth and interest.
  • ENHANCED FUNCTIONALITY: The front garden was transformed and its visual appeal was enhanced.
  • SUSTAINABILITY ACHIEVEMENTS: Added soil amendments and improved soil health, and added drought resistant flowers that would thrive in our hardiness zone.
